Over
the last 30 years, Chaplaincy has moved on both in terms of where it has been
planted but also in terms of whom it is set up to serve. The traditional mono-faith Chaplaincy
located in a faith based organisation has been superseded by multi-faith
Chaplaincy within otherwise secular organisations. Those who work in such Chaplaincies have
developed their own distinctive styles to meet the particular needs of their
clients. The
intent of this conference is to bring together practitioners from these
diverse situations; to hear how each ‘does chaplaincy’ and to explore whether
the different strands can learn from each other. In
the morning sessions, key speakers will introduce their chaplaincies,
describing their freedoms and restrictions, their involvement in the running
of their organisations; their clients and their support groups. In the afternoon participants will break
into groups to discuss the issues raised in the morning. The
conference is aimed at those involved in chaplaincies in schools, colleges,
universities, hospitals, the police force, prisons, the probation service,
the armed forces, the ports and airports etc. The
conference will be held at the Park Hotel, Diss, Norfolk. It offers
a large conference room with break out space.
It is situated a short taxi ride from Diss
Railway Station which is on the main railway line serving London, Chelmsford,
Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich. Diss is also fairly convenient for travel by the A11 and
A14 roads. The
conference is being funded by a grant to Suffolk Inter-Faith Resource from Faith Communities Capacity
Building Fund. This will be augmented
by support from the East of England Faiths Agency C.I.C. and is free to all
participants. Tea / coffee will be
served at registration, at 11:00am and again at 3:30pm. A buffet lunch will be provided. A nominal charge of £5.00 will be levied to
cover the cost of these refreshments. |
