Friday afternoons 1.30 – 4.30 p.m., fortnightly for 20 weeks from 3 November 2006 – 23 March 2007 (with breaks over holidays and half-terms), and one Saturday day-school

Culture shapes our perceptions of behaviour and communication, our values regarding personal and professional behaviour. This course explores the social development and maintenance of personal and group identities, and their impacts on individuals’ behaviour.

 

An introduction to promoting equality and diversity                              Course code 67Q026

Friday afternoons 1.30 – 4.30 p.m., weekly for 10 weeks from 20 April 2007(with breaks for half-term)

This course aims to develop students’ understanding and critical awareness of a broad range of current problems and issues, and the ability to apply this understanding effectively to the promotion of equality and management of diversity in the voluntary, community or public sector workplace.

 

Course Fee: £148 (£111 concessionary) per module

Understanding the legislative framework underpinning equality and diversity in the UK

Recent legal changes require public authorities and private, voluntary and community organisations to develop and implement equality schemes for their organisations.

 

Building strength and capacity within diverse communities

Community development is becoming an integrated pillar of national and regional policy and practice. How can we ensure that all communities engage with these changes on an equal footing? This course offers both a critical exploration of relevant issues, and the opportunity to develop an action plan.

 

An introduction to developing and implementing policies for corporate social responsibility

Organisations are increasingly required to develop policies for corporate social responsibility. This course offers a critical understanding of the concepts and theories underpinning CSR, and assistance in development and implementation of such policies.

 

Navigating cultural transition and dislocation

What are the effects of global migration on behaviour? And how are these effects evidenced in psychological and social change? This course explores the immigrant/refugee experience to develop practical models for  integration and assistance.
